This Wednesday (19), J-Hope, from BTS, released a 30-second teaser of the video for his next solo single, Mona Lisa, which will be released on Friday (21).
According to Billboard, he is sitting on a white bench in a gallery space with mostly empty walls, in faded jeans, black boots, a black leather jacket and backwards baseball cap, elbows on his knees as he contemplates the silence. The only action comes when he turns to look at the series of five photos of a woman in various states of profile, each of them being blown by a fan behind the singer.
There is no music in the teaser, the artist then stands up and an invisible hand smears his face with white paint as the song title appears on the screen.
It’s worth remembering that last week, he shared a brief preview of the song. In a statement, the singer’s record label, BIG HIT, described the song as exuding his “smooth, laid-back charm…expanding his musical spectrum, solidifying his status as one of the most dynamic and sought-after global artists.”
“‘MONA LISA’ is a love song that pays homage to the celebration of someone’s unique beauty. It explores a passion for a person whose beauty is unique,” he continued.
According to the publication, the label promises that the upbeat melody “perfectly combines a groovy rhythm with a funky chord progression, creating an irresistibly refreshing sound”, citing that “as the song develops, the chorus at the end invites infectious singing, amplifying the uplifting and pleasant atmosphere”.
It is worth noting that Mona Lisa is the continuation of his recently released digital single with Miguel, Sweet Dreams, which will debut at position 66 on the Billboard Hot 100 dated March 22.
Recently, BTS’s J-Hope announced that he will release his second digital single of the year, Mona Lisa, on March 21st.
According to the Korea Herald, it’s a hip-hop and R&B song that playfully compares an irresistible love interest to the legendary masterpiece. Unlike the dreamy and sweet atmosphere of Sweet Dreams, the next single offers a different charm, with the K-pop star personally involved in the writing process.
It’s worth noting that fans got a surprise preview of the track during J-Hope’s solo show, Hope on the Stage, held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. After performing Mona Lisa live for the first time last Friday (14), he told the audience: “This song is my way of expressing love. Simply put, Army (name of BTS fans) is my masterpiece.”
It is worth remembering that J-Hope kicked off his North American tour with two sold out shows, demonstrating the unwavering support of his fans. The tour will continue with 12 shows in six cities, including Chicago, Mexico City and Oakland.
According to the publication, the singer will become the first Korean solo artist to headline a concert at the BMO Stadium in Los Angeles on April 5 and 7, marking another milestone in his career.
His recent single Sweet Dreams (feat. Miguel) debuted at #42 on the UK’s Official Singles Chart, marking his sixth solo entry on the chart.
Following his appearance on LV Bag (feat. J-Hope of BTS & Pharrell Williams), Sweet Dreams became his second song on the chart this year. The single also topped three separate UK charts, Single Downloads, Single Sales and Physical Singles, making it the first time J-Hope has simultaneously held the top spot in multiple categories with a solo release.
