Playboi Carti has reached the top spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart with his latest studio project, MUSIC.
The album debuts with 298,000 album units sold in the United States in the week ending March 20, Luminate revealed. According to Billboard, this marks the biggest week of 2025 for a rap album. It also arrives with the biggest streaming week for a rap album since 2023. According to the publication, MUSIC songs totaled 384 million official on-demand streams, marking the biggest streaming week for any album in almost a year. It is worth remembering that MUSIC was officially announced on September 12, 2024 and went on pre-sale on the same day. However, the album’s release date was not announced until just two days before its arrival on March 12th. It is worth noting that it will be released on CD (in at least eight variants available for pre-order in its online store) in the coming weeks. The album will also profit in the future from sales generated by a series of deluxe box sets (containing branded merchandise and a CD) that have been available for pre-order since last September. Playboi Carti hit number one on the ARIA Albums Chart with Music, the rapper’s third studio album.
According to Billboard, the 30-track project not only marks his first chart-topper in Australia, but also his first ARIA top 10 entry, following previous peaks at No. 49 with Die Lit (2018) and No. 15 with Whole Lotta Red (2020).
It’s worth noting that the album features an all-star cast of guest collaborators, including Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, The Weeknd, Future, Young Thug and Jhené Aiko.
It is worth remembering that last Friday (14), Playboi Carti released the long-awaited album I Am Music via AWGE and Interscope Records.
Spotify publicized the album’s release last month, placing billboards in major cities such as Los Angeles, New York and Miami.
