Group Reaches 1 Billion Streams in Three Months, Despite Being on Hiatus
Despite being on hiatus, BTS continues to be relevant. The K-Pop group reached one billion streams on Spotify alone in the first three months of 2025. This is the first Korean group to reach this milestone on the platform while not active. The group suspended its activities in 2022 so that the seven members could focus on solo projects and mandatory military enlistment in South Korea. So far, only two members have been discharged from the military, but all are expected to be released by June, and the group plans to return later this year.
BTS is a South Korean boy band formed by Big Hit Music, a subsidiary of HYBE Corporation, in 2013. It consists of seven members: RM, Jin, SUGA, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. The group made their official debut on June 13, 2013, with the release of the single “No More Dream”, a track from their single album 2 Cool 4 Skool.
BTS’s achievements led the group to be ranked number one on the Forbes Korea Power Celebrity list for 2018, which ranks the most powerful and influential celebrities in South Korea.[2] Billboard compared the pandemonium and fan madness in the United States to the chaos caused by the Beatles in the 1960s.
