Artists gathered during performance on second night of festival
With a minimalist setting, without musicians or dancers, Charli XCX filled the main stage at Coachella with her music. With a repertoire of 15 songs, the “brat” had a performance marked by the presence of three other big names in contemporary pop: singer Troye Sivan and singers Lorde and Billie Eilish.
Troye was the first to go on stage, to sing “Talk Talk”, a feat he recorded with Charli. During the performance, the Australian singer wore a shirt with the phrase “Protect The Dolls”, by the brand Conner Ives. The clothing is part of a campaign in which the proceeds from sales of the items will be donated to the NGO Trans Life.
Lorde was the big surprise of the night. Away from the music industry since 2021, the artist reappeared last week posting a snippet of a possible new song on social media. Alongside Charli, the artist sang “Girl, So Confusing”, receiving a standing ovation from the audience.
Billie Eilish’s participation was already expected, ever since the singer posted a story on her Instagram profile with the iconic green cover of the album “brat”. Together, the artists sang the song “Guess”, which they recorded together.
The end of the “brat” era?
Wearing a black outfit, Charlie performed without the traditional green of the “brat” album cover, even though the show’s setlist consisted mostly of the album’s repertoire, including the songs “360”, “Von Dutch” and “Track 10”. With a greater emphasis on black and white lights, the presence of red at specific moments of the show did not go unnoticed.
The show ended with a message displayed on the screen signaling that a new era is coming. Raising hypotheses in the message to create expectations in the audience, the teaser ended with a green flag with the album title being burned:
“Thank you Coachella. Does this mean the summer of ‘brat’ is finally over? I don’t know? Does it? Yes, because, duh!, it was already over like last year. Wait, is it over? No? I don’t know who I am if it’s over??? Damn!! Wait… Wait… I remember! I’m Charli XCX and honestly, I just want this moment to last forever. Please don’t let it end.”
