According to municipal estimates, the free show is expected to bring together around 1.5 million people.
After opening her new tour with a critically acclaimed show at Coachella, Lady Gaga is preparing for an even bigger performance in Brazil. The singer will take to the stage at Copacabana Beach on May 3rd, in a free show that is expected to attract around 1 million people, according to estimates from Rio’s City Hall.
According to Luiz Oscar Niemeyer, CEO of the production company Bonus Track, responsible for the event, the show will be the biggest of the “Mayhem” tour. “It’s the biggest show of the tour. It’s certainly a bigger production,” Niemeyer told InfoMoney. The production company has signed an agreement with the city government to hold one big show per year in Copacabana until 2029.
The assembly of the structure is already underway. The stage will be 1,260 square meters and will be 2.20 meters from the sand, to facilitate visibility. A state-of-the-art central LED screen and ten others spread across the beach will ensure that the audience can follow the show even from a distance.
The show in Rio will last two and a half hours — 40 minutes longer than the performance at the California festival. The city government expects the event to generate up to R$600 million in the local economy.
